The opening lecture will address the theme “Carbon Flux in Agroecological Livestock Farming and Impacts on Global Warming”, addressing how agroecological pasture management can contribute to reducing global warming. The speakers will be: Prof. Paulo Horta, from UFSC, Brazil. Eng. Eduardo Erpen Fronza, from Fundação CERTI, Brazil. Prof. Juan Alvez, from the University of Vermont, USA.

We will discuss how agroecological pasture management can mitigate global warming and what the challenges and opportunities are for sustainable livestock farming.

The Nucleus of Voisin Rational Grazing (PRV) – UFSC is a research and extension group in pasture management with the objective of researching and expanding knowledge of agroecological pasture management, improving the PRV method. Furthermore, it aims to disseminate it through teaching and extension actions.

The PRV Center team is made up of undergraduate students (agronomy and zootechnics), postgraduate students, masters and doctors under the coordination of Professor Dr. Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado Filho.

Created in 1998 by Professor Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado Filho, the nucleus has work inspired by the teachings left by André Marcel Voisin, Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado, Nilo Romero and Mário Luiz Vincenzi, and is a pioneer in the study of PRV. It is linked to the André Voisin Institute (IAV) created by Prof. Luiz Carlos Pinheiro Machado in the 70s, through which he promoted and disseminated PRV through courses in Brazil and other countries.

Many professionals, producers and researchers today work with PRV, not only in Brazil, but also in several countries such as Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Nicaragua, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Uruguay, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Italy, France and the United States. United. The management deserves attention for being environmentally correct, economically viable, socially inclusive and compatible with animal welfare.

The event will take place in Florianópolis, capital of Santa Catarina, a Brazilian state located in the southern region of the country. It is a coastal city, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and made up of a main island, the island of Santa Catarina, a continental part and other surrounding islands. UFSC, the place that will host the event, is located on Santa Catarina Island!

The IV Pan-American Meeting on Agroecological Pasture Management (PRV in the Americas) is coming. The Meeting will be held between October 24th and 26th, 2024 at the Culture and Events Center on the Central Campus of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Agroecological pasture management is fundamental for sustainable ruminant production. In the Americas, there are successful experiences of cattle, buffalo and sheep production on different scales. The Meeting will address current issues on pasture management and promote technical and scientific discussions on sustainable solutions for production focusing on pan-american agroecosystems. Internationally renowned scientists will be present, see the schedule.

Family farmers and students have a discount on registration upon proof of entry to the event until September 30th!!
